1999 MOUNTAIN ADVENTURE

Throughout the year, members of the lab try to get out and enjoy the amazing hiking and scenery of the Pacific Northwest. In 1999, one of our lab trips took us to Camp Muir (elevation 10,100 ft.) on Mt. Rainier. After repeated postponements due to bad weather, we finally got a nice day in mid-July...

We set out from the parking lot at Paradise (elevation 5,420 ft.). There was still a lot of snow at this level, thanks to our record-setting winter.

We were following the Skyline Trail, which is the trail you would take if you were climbing to the top via the Ingraham Glacier and Disappointment Cleaver routes.

We took our first break at Pan Point (6,900 ft.). Stan was thoughtful and brought enough brownies to share.

The home stretch! Coming into Camp Muir after crossing the Muir Snowfield.

Almost all of us tried our hand (or backside) at finding the fastest way down. Kimberly didn't have much luck here...

...but George found the ultimate chute a little further down!
